He doesnt read it like sheet music like that. He has all the riffs on times on a sheet of paper. Something like that at least.

It seriously isn't as hard as it may seem. I was playing that (albeit sloppily) after a year of drumming, and I'm not really that good at counting.

I used to LOVE Dream Theater and Mike's drumming when I was a teen... but nowadays I find his approach to odd time VERY mechanical. He is still super creative, I'll give him that - but I still think he lacks a lot of feel and dynamics.

I watched that vid and he does pull off some serious odd time stuff.

I don't like the solos he plays, but the songs are pretty cool when they aren't cheeseball, that singer with his yelping...

I think Mike is a fine drummer... he does exactly what the gig calls for. I like Dream Theatre too. I think alot of the flak that Mike gets is because people lash back against his exuberant fans who tout him as the greatest drummer alive. Mike, in my opinion, sounds good for what he does, and acheives what he goes for... a good prog-rock sound.

Mike is a humble guy, too... i dig him.
